Detection of fraud in mobile telecommunications
نویسندگان
چکیده
Under the CEC’s ACTS’ programme, the collaborative R&D project ASPeCT2 was set up to look at the problems and possible solutions for security in future mobile telecommunications systems to follow on from GSM. The project consortium consisted of Network Operators (Vodafone, Panafon), equipment suppliers (Siemens ATEA, Siemens AG, Giesecke and Devrient) and academic institutions (Royal Holloway, University of London and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven). While the greater part of the project focused on protection of the communication between users mainly related to cryptographic mechanisms and services a substantial section addressed the problems of fraud and abuse of the networks, looking at possible tools for detection and management, but also examining the legal implications.

A Multi-Agent Systems Approach for Fraud Detection in Personal Communication Systems
The fraudulent use of telecommunications networks is costing the industry billions of dollars in lost revenue each year. The opportunities for fraudulent activity are particularly great in mobile communications as a result of the transport medium and the desire of network operators to attract large numbers of users quickly. This paper reports on the problems currently faced by mobile phone netw...
متن کاملUser profiling and classification for fraud detection in mobile communications networks
The topic of this thesis is fraud detection in mobile communications networks by means of user profiling and classification techniques. The goal is to first identify relevant user groups based on call data and then to assign a user to a relevant group. Fraud may be defined as a dishonest or illegal use of services, with the intention to avoid service charges. Fraud detection is an important app...
متن کاملCall-Based Fraud Detection in Mobile Communication Networks Using a Hierarchical Regime-Switching Model
Fraud causes substantial losses to telecommunication carriers. Detection systems which automatically detect illegal use of the network can be used to alleviate the problem. Previous approaches worked on features derived from the call patterns of individual users. In this paper we present a call-based detection system based on a hierarchical regime-switching model. The detection problem is formu...
متن کاملFraud Detection and Management in Mobile Telecommunications Networks
This paper discusses the status of research on detection of fraud undertaken as part of the European Commission-funded ACTS ASPeCT (Advanced Security for Personal Communications Technologies) project. A first task has been the identification of possible fraud scenarios and of typical fraud indicators which can be mapped to data in Toll Tickets. Currently, the project is exploring the detection ...
متن کاملDetecting Anomalies in Mobile Telecommunication Networks Using a Graph Based Approach
According to a survey conducted by the Communications Fraud Control Association an estimated $46.3 billion were lost due to telecommunications fraud in 2013. This suggests that the potential for intentional exploitation of unsuspecting users is an ongoing issue, and finding anomalies in telecommunications data can aide in the security of users, their phones, their personal information, and the ...
